APRIL
Assisting Individuals in Crisis and Group Crisis Intervention (GRIN) I Three Days

Melbourne I April 27TH – 29TH, 2020

This training (usually two courses of two days each but delivered as a three day course due to the accreditation and experience of the trainers) assists participants in how to respond effectively to incidents and crises in order to support people in the community, their colleagues and the organisation in the most appropriate way.

It focuses on both individual and group processes and is useful for all staff and particularly those in any peer support role within workplaces.

COURSE CONTENT INCLUDES

  • Crisis Intervention and CISM terminology and background
  • Introduction to Psychological First Aid
  • Crisis communication skills
  • Psychological and behavioural reactions to critical incidents and approaches to people in crisis
  • Crisis Management Briefing (CMB)
  • Rest, Information and Transition Services (RITS)
  • Immediate Small Group Support (ISGS)/Defusing
  • Powerful Event Group Support (PEGS)/Critical Incident Stress Debriefing
  • Stress Stocktakes
  • Resilience/wellbeing sessions and associated strategies
  • Values, ethics and practice standards; and
  • Post traumatic growth/Self care.

This course is accredited with Crisis Intervention and Management Australasia (CIMA) and the International Critical Incident Stress Foundation (ICISF) and participants receive the appropriate CIMA registration and ICISF completion certificate.

Strategic Response to Crisis I Two Days

Melbourne I APRIL 30 – MAY 1ST, 2020

This course focuses on the sequence of crisis intervention processes to use, for which individuals and/or groups, at what times and under what circumstances. Training in strategic planning and tactical decision making is the cornerstone of this course, along with preparedness of the crisis support personnel.

This course requires prior completion of the Assisting Individuals in Crisis and Group Crisis Intervention training programs (GRIN) or equivalent.

COURSE CONTENT INCLUDES

  • Strategic planning as it applies to crisis intervention
  • Incident management systems and crisis intervention
  • Elements of effective planning
  • Steps in developing the plan
  • Planning process in assessing target populations
  • Determining the type, timing and resources necessary
  • Assisting large numbers of people involved in a crisis
  • The most important crisis intervention tactics, and
  • Managing a complicated or large scale crisis event in the workplace or the community.

Psychological First Aid (PFA) I One Day
Melbourne I May 21ST, 2020

Psychological First Aid (PFA) is designed to be practical, flexible and modular in its approach and the first universal intervention with the Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) framework.

As an approach to helping people in the immediate aftermath of disasters, emergencies, crisis, accidents, assaults, trauma and stressful events PFA can assist in reducing initial distress if delivered in a non-judgemental and supportive manner.  PFA can assist in helping people to cope in the hours, days and weeks following the situation and encourages them to access a range of other supports such as family, friends, community agencies and specialist services.

It is recommended as a proven approach and suitable modality for any staff member within the workplace who may come into contact with those who may be distressed.  It is also suitable for volunteers and other community members who are supporting those affected after critical incidents.

COURSE CONTENT INCLUDES

  • What is Psychological First Aid (PFA)?
  • Goals of PFA, including adaptations for children and adolescents.
  • Core principles of promoting safety, calm, connectedness, self-efficacy, help and hope.
  • Core actions and models in use in Australia and internationally.
  • Staying in role, respecting boundaries and agency and service system guidelines.
  • Helper self-care.

This course is registered with Crisis Intervention and Management Australasia (CIMA).  Participants receive a recognised CIMA attendance certificate.

Bullying WorkshopThis workshop is a follow on from our Workplace Bullying Seminar “Is Bullying Making Your Job Difficult and Unpleasant?”. This half day workshop will focus on practical strategies and techniques for preventing and addressing bullying issues and complaints. You will practice:

  • What makes a useful bullying complaint? Whether you are compiling, receiving or responding to a complaint, having the complaint properly and fairly constructed is vital to being able to resolve the issues and move forward.
  • How do you respond to a complaint? The response is key to moving forward and to avoid getting stuck in an intractable situation.
  • Resolution strategies that enable everyone to get on with their work!
